The Plaque Reads:
Our
individual freedom and liberty have been won and preserved for us by our
military, our sons, our daughters, and generations before us.
“We will bring you home after the war”
is the promise our Government makes to those who serve.
This
unoccupied chair is a reminder that all have NOT come home.
Our Nation’s
Prisoners of War (POW) and Missing in Action (MIA) MUST NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
This chair
is reserved as a seat of honor that THEY ARE NOT FORGOTTEN”.
Refurbishing the Chair
After
receiving the Chair
from the Elks Lodge, Don Leasure and David Farris worked on
refurbish the frame.
David Farris built the stand that the plaque is mounted on to have
a better presentation of the plaque. Steve of Smitty’s Indy Marine
did the reupholstering
and Embroidery Plus embroidered the POW/MIA Logo on the
material. The pictures below shows what the Chair looked like in
the beginning and the finish product.
Unveiling of the POW*MIA Chair of HonorThe
POW*MIA Chair of Honor was unveiled by the Exalted Ruler, Gordon McGowan, the
Past Exalter Ruler Marty Mahan, and the Trustee and Veterans Committee Chair, Tim
Caudill. Special RecognitionSpecial
thanks goes to Gordon McGowan, Marty Mahan, and Tim Caudill for giving us the
opportunity to install this special chair in the Elks Lodge, David Farris for
refinishing the Chair and building the plaque stand, Steve of Smitty’s Indy
Marine for reupholstering the Chair, Embroidery Plus of Indianapolis for embroidering
the POW/MIA Logo, and the Rushville Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter
for donating the flags, flag poles/stands, rope stanchions, and the military
logo display.
