Dedicated May 18, 2024
The dedication of the IMS POW*MIA
Chair of Honor was on May 18, 2024. The POW*MIA Chair of Honor
was unveiled by Jim Smith, the brother of SFC
Ronald Eugene Smith who went missing on November 28, 1970 during the Vietnam
War, Barbara and John Wertz, who is the daughter and
grandson of Chief Warrant Officer John William Frederick, Jr, United States
Marine Corps, who was held as a Prisoner of War in North Vietnam from December
7, 1965 until his death in captivity on or about July 19, 1972. Also assisting was
Douglas Boles, the President of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The plaque reads: This unoccupied
chair is in honor of those that are still Prisoners of War or Missing in Action,
and symbolizes there will always be a place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway
awaiting their return. “You Will Not Be
Forgotten”
Special Recognition
Special
thanks goes to IMS President Douglas Boles and Vice President, Facilities
Tyrone Garrison and his staff for making the placement of this special chair possible at the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This POW*MIA
Chair of Honor will be seen by thousands of people to include
the families of those that are still POW or MIA. This chair is a
reminder to the families of our POWs and MIAs that your loved one
will always be remembered.
