Plainfield High School POW*MIA Chair of Honor
The
dedication of the POW*MIA Chair of Honor in the Plainfield High School
was special for the Chapter. This is the first POW*MIA Chair of
Honor installed in a High School with the student’s involvement.
The
chair was donated by the Plainfield High School and the students
designed and built the platform that the Chair of Honor sits on. Below is a picture of the Chair and Platform before and
after. As you can see the students did an awesome job on the platform. The Chair was reupholstered by Smitty’s Indy Marine and Embroidery Plus.

On
September 20, 2019 the Plainfield High School honored the National
POW/MIA Recognition Day and the POW*MIA Chair of Honor by making the
following announcement over the schools PA system.
POW*MIA Chair of Honor Student Announcement
Today,
September 20th is the National Prisoner of War (POW) and Missing in
Action (MIA) Recognition Day in honor of our former Prisoner of War and
those Service Members that still remain missing.
Since WWII,
1,735 Indiana Service Members are still listed as Unaccounted-For, and
over 82,000 Nation-Wide. Their remains have not been found, their
whereabouts are unknown.
In honor of those that still remain missing, a Chair of Honor has been placed in the Ellipse for all to see.
The plaque reads, “For
those who answered the call to duty and have yet to return to family
and home, who are listed among the Prisoners of War (POW) and those
Missing in Action (MIA), This chair is reserved as a seat of honor that
THEY ARE NOT FORGOTTEN”.
Rolling Thunder Indiana
Chapter 1, Students, and the High School Staff are honored to present
this “Chair of Honor” with the hope that one day all of the Nation’s
POW’s and MIA’s will be accounted-for and returned home. Until then,
this chair will remain unoccupied.
Let us never forget their sacrifice and the cost of our freedom. |
It’s
important to the Chapter to have these special chairs in our High
Schools to remind the younger generation that freedom isn’t free and to
never forget the sacrifices, and hardships that our POWs and MIAs have
endured in the defense of our freedom, and the sacrifices, and
hardships that our Military Service Members endure every day in defense
of this great Nation.
If
your High School would like to have a POW*MIA Chair of Honor, please
